New Website Screenshot tool — capture any webpage as a high-quality PNG image. Choose from Desktop (1920×1080), Tablet (768×1024), or Mobile (375×812) viewports. Rendered in a real Chrome browser via Docker sandbox for accurate, secure captures.

Fixed: Chrome Docker Stability

Fixed Chrome headless in Docker crashing with “Resource temporarily unavailable” errors. Increased PID limit from 100 to 512 and added shared memory allocation (256 MB). Also fixed output directory permissions for Docker Chrome user. Affects HTML→PDF, EPUB→PDF, SVG rendering, and the new Screenshot tool.

New Compress Video tool — reduce video file size with adjustable quality and resolution. H.264 encoding with 4 quality presets (CRF 18-32) and optional downscaling to 1080p/720p/480p. Supports MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, WMV, FLV. Video preview with file info, duration, and compression savings percentage.

Improved: Camera RAW Quality

RAW photo conversion (CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG) now uses AHD demosaicing (-q 3) instead of bilinear (-q 0) for significantly better color accuracy and detail in converted JPG/PNG images.

Improved: Smart Format Auto-Detection

Files with wrong extensions are now automatically detected and converted correctly instead of failing. The converter identifies 30+ formats from file content (magic bytes), including HEIC, AVIF, SVG, PSD, EPS, AVI, FLV, WMA, AIFF, ICO, and camera RAW. For example, a BMP file named logo.jpeg is silently converted as BMP.

Fixed: SVG, AI, EPS & TIFF Conversion Failures

Fixed high failure rates on several converters:

  • SVG → PNG/JPG/PDF (38% fail): Complex SVGs that crashed RSVG now fallback to Chrome headless rendering in Docker sandbox
  • AI/EPS → PNG (31% fail): Adobe Illustrator files with unsupported PostScript features now fallback to Inkscape
  • TIFF → JPG (45% fail): Multi-page TIFFs now correctly extract the first page instead of crashing

New: OCR for Scanned PDFs

Scanned PDFs (image-only, no selectable text) are now processed with Tesseract OCR before text extraction. PDF → TXT, PDF → EPUB, and PDF → Markdown conversions that previously failed on scanned documents now extract text via optical character recognition. Supports 15 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Dutch, Turkish, Arabic, Japanese, and Korean.

Improved: Color SVG Vectorization

PNG/JPG → SVG conversion now produces full-color vector output instead of black-and-white silhouettes. Powered by vtracer (replaces potrace). Photos and illustrations retain all colors with 1,500+ color regions per image.

Improved: HTML & EPUB to PDF via Chrome Headless

HTML → PDF and EPUB → PDF conversions now use Chrome 146 headless instead of wkhtmltopdf/LibreOffice. Full support for modern CSS (variables, Grid, Flexbox), web fonts, SVG graphics, and all Unicode encodings. EPUB files in Hungarian, Spanish, Italian, French, and Arabic now convert correctly.

Improved: Color Accuracy in Image Conversions

Fixed color shifts on iPhone photos (Display P3) and DSLR images (Adobe RGB). ICC color profiles are now properly converted to sRGB before metadata stripping. SVG/EPS rasterization density increased from 150 to 200 DPI for sharper output.

Improved: JSON Auto-Repair

JSON → YAML/CSV/Excel conversions now automatically fix common JSON issues: trailing commas, single quotes, JavaScript-style comments, unquoted keys, and unclosed brackets. Three-level fallback: standard parser → json5 → json_repair.

New: SVG to PNG Background Selector

SVG → PNG converter now defaults to transparent background (was white). New background selector: Transparent, White, Black, or Custom color. White SVG elements are no longer invisible on white background.

New: Paste Code for Text-Based Converters

12 converters now accept pasted text directly — no file upload needed. Paste SVG, HTML, JSON, YAML, XML, or plain text code and convert instantly. Available on SVG → PNG/JPG/PDF/DXF, HTML → PDF, JSON → YAML/CSV/Excel, YAML → JSON, XML → JSON/CSV, TXT → PDF.

Fixed: Duplicate Filename Suffix

Files already containing _cleverutils.com in the name no longer get a double suffix (photo_cleverutils.com_cleverutils.com.jpg). The existing suffix is detected and not duplicated.

Fixed: RTF to DOCX Conversion

Fixed RTF → DOCX conversion which was incorrectly routed through ImageMagick instead of LibreOffice. RTF files now convert to DOCX, DOC, and ODT formats correctly via LibreOffice.

New: Star Rating System

Users can now rate converter and tool pages with 1–5 stars after a successful conversion. Ratings are aggregated and displayed as a badge below the page title (after 10+ votes). After 50+ votes, star ratings appear in Google search results via AggregateRating JSON-LD schema.

New: Dynamic OG Images for Social Sharing

Every page now generates a unique branded preview image (1200×630) for social media sharing. When links are shared on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Discord, Slack, or WhatsApp, a custom image is displayed with the page title and CleverUtils.com branding.

Two new QR code tools:

  • QR Code Generator — create QR codes from text, URLs, or any data. Customizable size and error correction level. Download as PNG.
  • QR Code Reader — upload an image with a QR code or barcode and decode it instantly. Supports QR, EAN, UPC, Code 128, and more.

Backend: qrencode for generation, zbar for decoding.

Fixed: ICO to PNG Multi-Frame Conversion

Fixed ICO files with multiple icon sizes (16×16, 32×32, 256×256, etc.) failing to convert to PNG. When ImageMagick splits a multi-frame ICO into separate files, the converter now automatically selects the largest (highest resolution) frame as the output.

New: RTF to DOCX Conversion

Added support for converting Rich Text Format (RTF) files to Microsoft Word DOCX format via LibreOffice. Preserves text formatting, images, and document structure.
